Friday March 6th
We have finally started our great adventure!  It was so hard to leave San Diego and all of our best friends.  We had a great sendoff with a great group of our closest friends; we went out in true southern Cali fashion with breakfast burritos on the beach.  Sometimes the hardest decisions lead to greatness, so here is to greatness!!!
Our first stop was the underestimated and strangely beautiful Salton Sea, we stayed at Mecca Beach.  It was about 200 miles east of San Diego, the drive out quickly changed to dessert, with no houses and just really big rocks and cactus.  The Salton Sea is a vas, shallow, and unique lake, the center of a 360 square mile basin and one of the world’s inland seas.  The Salton Sea was created in 1905 when a dike broke, and in turn, the basin was flooded with saltwater. We stopped to check out the so called mud pots but were a little disappointed in the fact that they were all dried up.   The Salton Sea has gotten a bad rap in the past but we both think it is totally worth checking out.  If you can get past the fishy smell you can explore a place that is unlike any other.  It is a unique salt water lake, with a crazy shore line of dead fish and their bones ground up to create a layer that looks almost like snow.  Don’t be surprised to see a large pod of pelicans flying by at sun set over the lake.
I really wanted to go to Salvation Mountain but we missed the turn off on the way up and Mike would not allow backtrackingL  He did promise that he would take me there next year!  You all heard it ;-)

We have so many more pictures to share but I posted this on a quick stop on our way into the mountains!  We will update you on our two night in Death Valley soon:)  Till then!!  Love you All!!

We only stayed here one night and then drove up to Death Valley.  You might have noticed that our route changed.  We decided that the Channel Islands were going to be too expensive for just a day trip; they do not allow dogs so we had to figure out something to do with Miss Tinka.  So instead we have chosen to go east.
